Born in 1998, FERNANDO MARTIN-GULLANS spent much of his young life in Spain before moving to San Diego, California, in 2007. This move also marked the beginning of his dance career and introduction to competitive ballroom dance. Since then, dancing has become a passion for Fernando and he is almost always in motion. Fernando has experienced great success in competitive ballroom, winning many first-place awards in regional and state competitions. In the last year he has also begun to study classical ballet. In the rare moments Fernando is not dancing, he loves to play rugby, study military history, and watch movies. The Dizzy Feet Foundation scholarship has already had an enormous impact on Fernando. Beginning with his participation in the Gala Show at the Kodak Theatre, the scholarship has given him the opportunity to perform at a level he had not formally known and to meet other dancers who have become his inspiration. With the help of the scholarship, Fernando has been able to expand his classes and intensify his training. He and his partner recently won first place at the California Open competition and have begun adding new choreographies for the upcoming nationals.
