Gabrielle Johnson
Gabrielle was born in Palmer, Alaska, where she started training at the age of 7 at the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy under the direction of Michelangelo and Farah Canale. During her time there, Gabrielle had seven years of perfect attendance. In the summer of 2008, Gabrielle attended the Rosella Hightower Summer Program in Cannes, France, under the direction of Monique Loudiere. In 2008-2009, Gabrielle competed at Youth American Grand Prix; she was the second runner up in the classical category at the semi-finals in San Francisco, California. Continuing in the competition at the New York finals, she was awarded a scholarship to the Bolshoi summer program. For the past three years, Gabrielle has been studying at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School under the direction of Franco DeVita and Raymond Lukens. Gabrielle was cast as Swanhilda, the lead role in their excerpt of “Coppelia,” for the JKO School at ABT’s spring performance. During her first year at the JKO school, she was invited to guest perform in Oscoda, Michigan, at the North East Academy of Dance under the direction of Giuseppe Canale and Scott Heinrich; there, she performed as Juliet in excerpts from “Romeo and Juliet.” Gabrielle attended the ABT summer intensive and worked as a counselor for the Young Dancer Summer Workshop in the summer of 2011. She continued her training at the JKO school for the 2010-11 school year, performing pas de trios in Susan Jaffe’s chorography “We Insist” and “Jerusalem Divertissement,” choreographed by Raymond Lukens. In September 2011, Gabrielle performed in the Young Stars of Ballet Gala in Indianapolis, Indiana. She joined the ABT Studio Company in September 2011.
